Responsibility
- Specimen Processing: Receive, process, and log specimens accurately, ensuring adherence to chain-of-custody protocols.
- Testing Execution: Perform routine and complex diagnostic tests in hematology, chemistry, microbiology, and immunology using automated and manual methods.
- Quality Assurance: Monitor quality control measures, maintain calibration records, and participate in internal and external proficiency testing.
- Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment and report malfunctions to the technical supervisor.
- Record Keeping: Document test results accurately in the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and prepare reports for physicians.
- Safety Compliance: Strictly adhere to OSHA safety standards, biosafety level protocols, and hazardous material handling procedures.
- Communication: Collaborate with the clinical staff to resolve ambiguous results or specimen issues promptly.
Qualification
- Education: Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Medical Laboratory Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field required.
- Certification: ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) or AMT certification is strongly preferred. State licensure required where applicable.
- Experience: 1-3 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting preferred.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in operating automated analyzers (e.g., Beckman Coulter, Sysmex) and manual wet lab techniques.
- Attention to Detail: Exceptional ability to detect anomalies and ensure data integrity.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with healthcare professionals.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and work with potentially hazardous materials.
