Blue Horizon Maritime Group is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Ship Captain to command our growing fleet of container vessels operating in the Atlantic region. Responsibility
- Command & Leadership: Exercise complete command of the vessel, directing the crew to ensure the safe operation of the ship and the protection of the marine environment.
- Navigation: Plan and execute voyage routes utilizing advanced electronic charting systems and traditional navigation methods to ensure efficient and safe passage.
- Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to all national and international maritime laws, regulations, and company policies, including ISM and SOLAS codes.
- Cargo Management: Oversee the safe loading, stowage, and unloading of cargo, ensuring weight distribution meets safety standards and maximizes capacity.
- Safety & Emergency Response: Conduct regular drills and ensure all safety equipment is operational. Command the vessel during emergency situations, including man overboard, fire, or pollution incidents.
- Maintenance: Supervise the general maintenance and upkeep of the vessel, working with the Chief Engineer to ensure seaworthiness.
- Reporting: Maintain accurate logs, prepare voyage reports, and communicate regularly with the operations center regarding status, weather, and fuel consumption.
Qualification
- Certification: Must possess a valid US Coast Guard Master's License (or equivalent, e.g., unlimited tonnage) with endorsements for the specific vessel type.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience serving as a Deck Officer, with at least 2 years in a Captain role on ocean-going vessels.
- Training: Current STCW (Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping) certifications, including Basic Safety, Advanced Fire Fighting, and Medical Care.
- Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and manage a diverse crew in a high-pressure environment.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in GMDSS, ECDIS, and fleet management software.
- Communication: Excellent command of the English language, both written and oral.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to pass a post-employment drug screen and physical examination. Comfortable working in all weather conditions.
