Responsibility

  • Operational Execution: Navigate vessels, deploy and retrieve fishing gear (gillnets, trawls, or traps), and manage the catch in compliance with local regulations.
  • Maintenance & Safety: Perform routine vessel maintenance, inspect safety equipment, and strictly adhere to all maritime safety protocols and OSHA guidelines.
  • Catch Management: Sort, grade, and process the daily catch to ensure quality standards are met before storage or transport.
  • Log Keeping: Maintain accurate logs of fishing activities, catch weights, and weather conditions for regulatory reporting.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with deckhands and captains to ensure efficient workflow and safe operations during long shifts.

Qualification

  • Certifications: Valid US Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) or equivalent commercial fishing license.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of verifiable commercial fishing experience in similar conditions.
  • Physical Fitness: Must be physically fit, capable of lifting heavy loads (50+ lbs) and working in extreme weather conditions for extended periods.
  • Navigation Skills: Proficiency in using electronic navigation systems and reading nautical charts.
  • First Aid/CPR: Current certification in Basic First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
