Responsibility

  • Execute all phases of fishing operations: setting, hauling, and emptying trawls, gillnets, or longlines efficiently.
  • Operate and maintain critical deck machinery including winches, cranes, power blocks, and fish pumps.
  • Process, sort, gut, and freeze the catch to stringent quality and food safety specifications.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on engines, hydraulics, and electronic navigation equipment.
  • Stand watch, navigate, and assist the Captain with vessel handling in all weather conditions.
  • Repair and maintain fishing gear (nets, lines, buoys, hooks) to ensure operational readiness.
  • Strictly adhere to all safety protocols, conduct emergency drills, and maintain lifesaving equipment.

Qualification

  • Minimum 2+ years of verifiable experience as a Deckhand on a commercial fishing vessel (Alaskan experience highly preferred).
  • U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC) with a valid medical certificate.
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification; STCW Basic Safety Training or similar is a distinct advantage.
  • Must pass a comprehensive pre-employment physical, drug screening, and background check.
  • Demonstrated physical strength (ability to lift 75+ lbs) and stamina for extended, extreme shifts.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, particularly with diesel engines and hydraulic systems.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills, with a proven ability to perform under pressure.
