Job Description

Pacific Maritime Services is seeking an experienced Ship Captain to command our fleet of commercial vessels operating out of Seattle, WA. In this role, you will be responsible for safe navigation, crew leadership, and ensuring compliance with U.S. Coast Guard regulations.

Responsibility

  • Command and navigate vessels safely across assigned routes, ensuring adherence to voyage plans and maritime law.
  • Ensure strict compliance with U.S. Coast Guard regulations, safety standards, and environmental policies.
  • Oversee crew training, assignment, and performance, fostering a culture of safety and teamwork.
  • Monitor cargo operations and ensure proper loading, securing, and unloading procedures.
  • Maintain vessel safety equipment, conduct regular inspections, and manage emergency response protocols.
  • Communicate with port authorities, shore support, and other vessels to coordinate smooth port operations.
  • Manage voyage documentation, logs, and reporting requirements accurately and timely.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and safety performance.

Qualification

  • Valid U.S. Coast Guard Master Mariner license (or comparable international certification) with unlimited tonnage.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience commanding commercial vessels, preferably in cargo or passenger sectors.
  • In-depth knowledge of navigation systems (GPS, radar, AIS) and electronic chart display.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills in high-pressure environments.
  • Ability to work irregular hours, extended voyages, and variable weather conditions.
  • High school diploma required; a college degree in maritime studies, naval architecture, or related field is preferred.
  • Current certifications in CPR/First Aid, STCW Basic Safety, and hazardous material handling.
  • Successful completion of background check, drug screening, and pre-employment medical examination.
