Responsibility
- Pitch, research, and produce high-impact investigative stories for digital, video, and print platforms.
- Cultivate and maintain a network of confidential sources across key industries and government agencies.
- Analyze complex datasets (FOIA requests, public records, leaked documents) to uncover systemic issues.
- Shoot, edit, and produce compelling short-form and long-form video content for social media and the main site.
- Collaborate with data journalists, editors, and the legal team to ensure accuracy and mitigate risk.
- Represent the organization at industry conferences and on major broadcast networks.
- Manage multiple concurrent projects with strict deadlines.
- Mentor junior reporters and freelancers.
Qualification
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in investigative journalism at a major news organization.
- Proven track record of breaking significant national stories.
- Mastery of digital storytelling tools (Adobe Premiere Pro, OBS, Chartbeat, etc.).
- Exceptional writing skills for a sophisticated audience; ability to explain complex issues clearly.
- Experience with data journalism and visualization (Python, R, SQL, or similar is a major plus).
- Deep understanding of media law, ethics, and source protection.
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field; Master's preferred.
- A robust portfolio of published clips and documentary-style video work.
