Responsibility
- Propose, research, and execute high-impact investigative stories from conception to publication.
- Utilize advanced public records requests (FOIA/State equivalents) and data analysis techniques to uncover hidden trends and facts.
- Cultivate and maintain a diverse network of confidential sources and whistleblowers.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including data journalists, videographers, and interactive designers to create compelling multimedia narratives.
- Write and edit deeply reported, nuanced articles that meet the highest editorial and ethical standards.
- Fact-check all content with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring absolute accuracy and legal defensibility.
- Represent the organization at industry events and on broadcast platforms as a subject matter expert.
Qualification
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience in investigative or enterprise reporting for a major news outlet.
- Proven track record of breaking complex, original stories that led to significant change or policy impact.
- Exceptional writing skills with a portfolio demonstrating narrative flair and analytical depth.
- Expert proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, R, Python, SQL) and digital security practices.
- Deep understanding of media law, ethics, and the legal landscape surrounding journalism.
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field (Master's preferred).
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple long-term projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
